Would you like to take part in the only purely figure-based show in the UK? Then read on… The idea for a Basement show has been discussed on the forum for several years. Everyone thought what a good idea it would be for people to meet in the flesh. Many members knew each other from shows they attended and the Euro meal and after show drinks have always been popular, but an event where people from all over the country could meet together, look at each other’s work, discuss techniques and talk figures was a logical step to developing The Basement Experience. Initially many forum posts were filled with suggestions of venues, even more with how competitions could be run, but a consensus could not be reached, with a suitable venue remaining a sticking point. Things moved on; regional chapters began to be formed with regular meetings, the Basement stand made more appearances at shows and was well supported and more and more members joined the forum. But the idea of a national event just for figure modellers still remained a goal. The current management board took the decision that and event would be put on in 2010. While discussions were going ahead about what type of event would be held, an excellent venue became available. Maelstrom Games offered the use of their upper floors which they use as gaming areas. The rooms are of a good size, well lit, have a bar, there is on site parking, a shop selling modelling and gaming stuff and it’s easily accessible from the M1…what could be better? We had a venue we needed a name. Several were suggested but FIGURE WORLD seemed to have an ‘it does what it says on the tin’ ring to it. What will a prospective visitor to FIGURE WORLD experience? ➢ A warm welcome ➢ A chance to meet old friends and make new ones ➢ An opportunity to talk figure modelling to others with similar interests ➢ An opportunity to learn new skills and techniques from people who are happy to share their ideas ➢ Displays of figures covering all areas of the hobby put on by Basement members, clubs and individuals. (Yes bring your work there will be space to display it) ➢ Demonstrations on figure painting, sculpting and base making ➢ An opportunity to relieve yourself of some cash in the shop ➢ A warm feeling knowing that you are attending the only purely figure-based event in the UK You don’t have to be a Basement member just come along on the 10th July and be there for the inception of an event which represents your interests better than any other. Oh and for the future: the only figure-based competition in the UK and much more…… |
