Company – Draconia Price – £18.50 Scale – 54mm Material – White Metal Code – DR-FAN14 Sculpted by – Not known This range keeps getting better and better. I thought that some of the initial releases were a bit weak, both in design and sculpting, but the Draconia seem to have refined things now to a high standard. Sculpting is very good, with details standing out very well, the form of this lass is pleasing, with a dynamic stance and all the bits in the right place and to the right proportions. The slight forward jut to the head gives her a business-like look, a certain “I can use this large axe quite well thank you, and you’re going to find out if you keep that up” kind of body language, which is clever. The arms and hands seem a bit puny. Perhaps it’s me, but swinging this lump of metal around with any regularity would make me think that she’s got a muscle or two, and although it’s nice and feminine, I think her forearms and wrists might be a lot thicker. Otherwise, nicely sculpted, a good face that should take paint well, plenty of other flesh areas to play about with, and a nice mass of hair to work with too. Casting – clean with very restrained mould part lines on the main castings, a little flash on the weapon / hand casting, but nothing that a scalpel and a file won’t find easy work. Fit of parts is good, the left leg slots in place and doesn’t look like it’ll need filler, the weapon / hands might need a little playing about with to get the correct orientation and sit of the part, and I’d not like to begin thinking about how thin a strengthening pin might be needed to help keep them in position once the glue has dried. The groundwork supplied is basic ( yes, that’s another intentional pun, hope you’re keeping up with this wit ), but in fairness, most modellers will want to add her to something that shows her off a little better, so it’s probably just going to get deposited into a bit’s box for weighing in at the scrap merchants some day in the distant future when three kilos of white metal is worth something ( Yes, I’m sad enough to keep all such bits in the wild hope that one day there’ll be a world shortage of lead and tin and I’ll become a millionaire…….well it’s a fantasy piece I’m reviewing…..) So, in summary, a nice model, well sculpted, good component reproduction, if you like the subject, then it’s kind of a no-brainer. Thanks to Matt and Celine at El Greco Miniatures for sending this along for review, the model is available from them at the address below, or by visiting their website. Adrian.
