If you’ve seen the Leo figure review, then the first thing you’ll probably notice ( with a sharp in take of breath too ), it the price hike. To be honest, it is a shock, but there’s a couple of reasons I think behind this much higher price tag. First must be the size of this piece. Although it’s just as tall as the Leo figure, there’s probably about three times as much metal in this one when compared to the Leo. Secondly, there’s more pieces to the kit – Eight in the Taurus kit compared to six in the Leo box. And look, I haven’t even mentioned the exchange rate !!!! If you recall, I preferred the Leo bust to the Taurus one, but I think the tables are turned here with the figures. I like the bulk of the Taurus figure, and the face looks a little less cuddly than the one on the Leo figure. Sculpting – to be honest, it’s as good as on the Leo, the musculature I way over the top, but it works and is well proportioned in it’s own way ( like a really well muscled Weightlifter type of way ). Some of the sculpting is quite fine and very detailed – the embellishments on the thigh and shin guard look O.K. but I’ll bet that with a wash of dark paint, the detail becomes a lot clearer and easier to identify. Casting – good again, there’s some mould part lines to deal with, but nothing major, and the parts fit together relatively well. I think to be honest that you’re going to have to use pins quite a lot on this one. The open armed stance will mean that the glue is having to do a lot of work, so giving it that bit of help, especially if you’re going to have the piece travel anywhere, would be well advised. Unlike the Leo figure, there isn’t a groundwork base supplied. To be honest, it’s not really needed, as most folk will sculpt probably their own anyway, and the figure is standing on flat ground, unlike the Leo offering. Overall, I like this, there’s and interesting series of figures developing here, with more being added at regular intervals. The model is available from Matt and Celine at El Greco Miniatures.
