This is the second “mini bust” I’ve seen, although the first one was of the Leo model, and belonged to someone else ( but it was still pretty good ). This offering – Capricorn – broadens the bust range for Fausto’s “War of the Zodiac”.

It’s no secret that I like this range of busts, the imagination that’s gone into the concept and design is very, very good, and making that into a 3D rendering of an idea takes some skill. Fausto seems to have just that, and I think that this one is actually as good as the Leo ( my favourite so far ).
Sculpting is detailed and gives plenty for the painter to work on, the parts are split logically and fit together well – on my example there’s no apparent need for filler between the horn and it’s seating on the socket it pairs up with.

Obviously there should be a little less detail on this than on the full sized offering – the one thing I noticed as being different on the Leo bust from the mini bust and it’s smaller scale figure were the fangs – only the larger bust had then in evidence.
Not having access yet to the full sized Capricorn bust, I don’t know if there’ll be any differences like this, so we’ll have to wait and see. Casting is well up to Yedharo’s usual standard, there is some clean up necessary, but only to the underside of the bust, as a mould part line circles the very bottom edge of the main resin casting. This doesn’t fall across any detail really, and a bit of careful filing and work with an emery board will rid the model of that, ith little if any danger of removing any detail sculpting.
This is a very nice little piece, one that should be fun to paint up.

The good thing about this range seems to be that a few of us can disagree – not that they’re good, but which one is best. I think that’s a testament to the quality of these, that whilst we agree on the overall quality, the characterisation of each is different enough to draw different people’s preferences.
Thanks to Matt and Celine at El Greco Miniatures for sending this along for review, the model is available from them at the address below, or by visiting their website.
